MIG 101

Certification for MIG Welder in the Welding Shop

Registrations are closed
This class will certify you on our MIG welder in the Welding Bay along with a general intro to the area. (starting 1/1/24 nonmembers can use the space after certification, but will need to become a member and have a key FOB to use the welder on their own). There is safety gear at the makerspace for welding and for you to try on during class, but going forward it is encouraged to get your own properly fitted gear. Please come wearing work jeans/pants and boots, we have welding jackets. In this class we will go over the welding bay in general and what is available. You will learn about parts of the welder and what the MIG process is. I will teach you how to start up the machine and set yourself up for success. There is a practical part where everyone will try it out, this is where I’ll give you tips and go over potential issues you may come across! I will then go over shutdown procedure and any of your questions.

THIS IS A PRE-REQUISITE FOR TIG CLASSES. This class goes over general set up of any welder (gas, power, etc) so it sets the foundation for learning on the TIG machine as I do not go over in depth how to set that up in TIG 101 or 102.

MIG or TIG Welder Use after Certification: $10/hr for gas and wire usage

Welding Classes are taught indoors over the winter. Please meet at the back bay for 9am, then we will move indoors
